OBJECTIVES:
To describe the principle and working of flight systems and instruments.
To interpret the basics of guided missile systems.
To outline the basics of spacecraft systems.
To learn the concepts of engine systems
To make students aware of flight control systems

UNIT I

FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMS

Conventional Systems – Power assisted and fully powered flight controls – Power actuated systems – Engine control systems – Push pull rod system – flexible push full rod system – Components – Modern control systems – Digital fly by wire systems – Auto pilot system active Ncontrol Technology – Communication and Navigation systems – Instrument landing systems.

UNIT II

FLIGHT SYSTEMS

Hydraulic systems, Components – Hydraulic system controllers – Modes of operation – Pneumatic systems – Working principles – Typical Air pressure system – Brake system – Typical Pneumatic power system, Components – Landing Gear systems – Classification – Shock absorbers – Retractive mechanism – Rocket Separation mechanism.


UNIT III

ENGINE SYSTEMS

Fuel systems for Piston and jet engines – Components of multi engines – Lubricating systems piston and jet engines – Starting and Ignition systems – Typical examples for piston and jet engines.

UNIT IV

GUIDED MISSILE SYSTEMS

Introduction – Airframe – Propulsion System – Types of Control Systems – Gyroscope and its types – Roll and Lateral Control System – Fin Actuation Servos – Roll and Lateral Autopilot – Guidance System.

UNIT V

SPACECRAFT SYSTEMS

Basics: Structure – Power – Thermal - Communications and Data Handling - Propulsion System - Attitude Stabilisation and Control.

TOTAL: 45 PERIODS

OUTCOMES: On successful completion of this course, the student will be able to
Desribe the controls and operation of an aircraft.
Interpret how the aircraft systems are maintained.
Explain the systems available in the aircraft engines.
Classify the systems available in a missile.
Describe the basics of systems available in a spacecraft.
